Reflexive Pronouns aşağıdaki durumlarda kullanılır.

 

1. Öznenin aynı zamanda cümlenin nesnesi olduğu durumlarda kullanılır.

 

- She talks to herself when she is upset.

(Çok üzgün olduğunda kendi kendine konuşur.)

 

- I caught sight of myself in the mirror.

(Aynada kendimi gördüm.)

 

- You need to take care of yourself during the journey.

(Yolculuk boyunca kendine dikkat etmelisin.)

 

- Maria taught herself how to play the piano using online tutorials.

(Maria, çevrimiçi dersler kullanarak piyano çalmayı kendi kendine öğrendi.)

Reflexive pronoun özneden hemen sonra gelebilir. Bu durumda eylemi, öznenin bizzat kendisinin yaptığı daha vurgulu söylenmiş olur.

(Başkan haberi bizzat kendisi açıkladı.)

3. Kendi kendine zarar verme veya kendine bir şey yapma durumlarında kullanılır.

Eş anlamlı olmalarına rağmen geleneksel olarak each other iki insan ya da varlıktan söz ederken kullanılır. One another ise daha çok ikiden fazla insan veya varlıktan bahsederken tercih edilir. Ancak günümüz İngilizcesinde iki ifade de birbirinin yerine kullanılmaktadır. One another daha resmi bir ifade olup yazılı ve resmi dilde tercih edilir.
